City of Castlegar
Castlegar, BC
Castlegar is introducing a new initiative to enhance their curbside waste collection program by incorporating organics. This significant change serves as an opportunity to transform the way waste collection is addressed in the city and to educate its residents. To achieve this, Ion was engaged to formulate an effective strategy and waste education campaign, aimed at raising public awareness and encouraging positive changes in citizens’ waste management habits.
Well-known risky combinations are employed to introduce the concept that food is not garbage – stepping on legos, running with scissors and landfilled food just don’t belong together. Paired with the tagline More organics + more recycling = less garbage, make it easy for residents to understand that sorting speaks volumes when it comes to how much waste can be diverted. Bright colours and pop-art inspired icons create an engaging campaign and flexible system for educational communications that are fun and easy to understand.
